Dear Parents and Caregivers,
My name is Christina Jones and I am the teacher in your child’s social studies classroom. I am enthusiastic to begin my second year of teaching here at Granite Mountain Middle School! I graduated from Prescott College with dual majors in history and secondary education. I earned my secondary social studies teaching certification and am deemed highly qualified in the area of history. After student teaching here at GMMS with Mr. Cordes, I became an instructional aide in the B.E.S.T. classroom. I also was a substitute teacher at this school and others within the district.
Studying various aspects of history has always been my passion and I hope to spread this passion onto my students. I want my students to understand the importance of learning about history and the world they live in. My teaching style is diverse and includes direct instruction,
note taking, cooperative group work, projects, research, reading, writing, class discussions and much more. I give homework when deemed necessary to learning. While aligning your curriculum with Arizona state standards and College and Career Readiness standards, my units of study will be STEAM infused. This means that our team will work collaboratively to infuse science, technology, engineering, art and math into our classes. Focus will also be put on functional literacy, comprehension and critical thinking skills. For me, history has never been about remembering dates and trivial facts. I want my students to come away from this class knowing concepts which will lead them to a better understanding of what the world has been, what it is and what it can be in the future.
I believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I invite all parents and caregivers to play an active role in their child’s educational process. At the beginning of each quarter, I will post a newsletter on my website to keep you updated on what we will be doing in the classroom and what your child will be learning. I will also take this opportunity to present volunteer opportunities for parents and guardians to come into the classroom, though anytime is a good time! I value communication with you, so please never hesitate to contact me regarding any questions, issues or concerns. My classroom door is always open!
Thanks so much and I look forward to a great school year!
